NMC

The Northern Mission Centre is a collaboration between God for All and Church Mission Society to support creative and innovative mission. We are pioneering at heart, supporting both Time Honoured and New Worshipping Communities (NWC) across all denominations.

Over the last five years the Northern Mission Centre has grown to be able to offer a range of support, training and resources. These include the Mixed Ecology Trellis, the Certificate in Pioneer Mission, day events, Growbag, the Garden Planner and the opportunity to network with like minded people. You can read more here.

If you are specifically interested in the Pioneer Certificate please see here.

Each year we produce a booklet about what’s been happening in Cumbria the latest addition of which is here.

Background on the Northern Mission Centre

The Northern Mission Centre (NMC) was initially developed to support creative mission in Cumbria and across the North of England and Southern Scotland funded through the Reaching Deeper Programme which ended in Dec 2024.

Moving forwards, the NMC will focus on supporting missional revitalisation in Cumbria. It is important to note that the NMC has always been the Northern MISSION Centre, recognising our place serving the whole church and the wider structure whilst supporting those working at the creative edge of mission who do not always easily fit in. Initially we developed a dedicated pioneer network called Cmpfire, these have grown into other spaces such as Network Youth Church, the Children and Families Network, IME 2 pioneer curates, and Pioneering Parishes.

Over the years the Northern Mission Centre has worked across the whole church supporting Lay pioneers, Non-Stipendiary Ministers, House for duty pioneers, Church planters, Ordained pioneers, Missional Curates, Youth Minsters and social entrepreneurs from across the denominations. Part of our work has been developing resources like Growbag and the Trellis, and using people in our networks to support the wider church delivering workshops, training, consultancy and support to the church locally.

The lessons we have learnt along the way are many. We know that Time Honoured and New Worshipping Communities need each other, often more than they realise. We know that telling stories about others working in their communities can inspire people to adapt something for their own context. We know that the more we network and nourish people involved in pioneer mission, the more happens. We know people are generous with their time, gifts and talents, but are stretched. We know that the more creative we are in how we do training and support, the more creative people are in their local situation, and we know that all of this has helped to foster a kind of missional ecosystem that is supportive, relational, giving and creative. So the Northern Mission Centre is all about supporting that ecosystem to grow because God is for all.
