Emmanuel College

Study Theology in Cumbria

Are you interested in studying theology at university level, close to home, as part of a community that exists to equip the whole people of God to serve the whole mission of God today?

Emmanuel Theological College offers outstanding opportunities for theological study at centres throughout the North West, including Penrith.  Studying alongside those training for lay and ordained ministry, students are able to be part of a learning community that is Christ-centred, hope-filled and mission-orientated.

Independent students, either self-funded or sponsored by church authorities, can undertake rigorous, faith-filled, and inspiring academic programmes that will resource contemporary Christian discipleship by staying alert to the realities of the twenty-first century and inviting students to connect their faith with real life.  Emmanuel’s academic programmes are attentive to the implications of theology for a variety of other spheres including leadership, work, politics, ethics, mission, and society and the College encourages all of its students to make connections between their classroom learning and whatever context they are currently living and working within.

Emmanuel offers several qualifications through the Penrith teaching centre, all accredited by Durham University, one of the leading theology departments in the UK.  Studying part-time, with in-person tutorials on Tuesday evenings, supported with lots of online resources, students can obtain the:

  • Certificate of Higher Education in Theology, Ministry, and Mission (two years of study)
  • Diploma of Higher Education in Theology, Ministry, and Mission (three years of study)

Other qualifications, to BA or Masters level, are also available through Emmanuel, delivered at the Liverpool teaching centre.
